Fresh Water Shower and Latrine Project

In central Vietnam, about 50 km northwest of the old imperial city of
Hue, lies the mountainous district of A Luoi. Nearly hidden among the
remote hills and valleys and populated with a rich ethnic mix of TaOi,
KaTu and Paco, is the tiny village of Hong Ha.
With a population of 1,800 people spread among 450 households, most
of the families in Hong Ha are lacking hygienic latrines. A long-term
challenge for local authorities, due to the poor economic conditions
and ready access to fresh water, has been a safe and reliable sanitation
system.
Most families use makeshift, homemade latrines which are made of temporary
materials and are often damaged by the harsh weather extremes. Some
villagers have simple systems where raw sewage flows directly into
rivers and streams. This practice is unsafe and has affected the
environment and the health of the local population.

In a recent latest survey, we found that most of local people are
eager to have a fresh water shower system and hygienic latrine
facilities but simply do not have enough money to build one.
We ask that you consider helping us fund this project that will bring
dignity, safety and a healthier life to the people of Hong Ha.

Project Information
|

In view of these serious conditions, The D.O.V.E. Fund is reviewing a
proposal from local officials and an experienced construction company
to build hygienic latrines with tiled showers for fifty families in
the village of Hong Ha.
The cost for this project is:
$35,870
Affected families have agreed to fund:
$11,950
Support needed from the D.O.V.E. Fund:
$23,920
